Join Dr. Yael Ziegler for an in-depth exploration of the life of David Hamelech, as depicted in the Biblical texts of Shmuel, Tehillim and Divrei Hayamim. This course will analyze the narratives and poetic expressions that portray David's complex character, leadership, and enduring legacy.

Through close readings and critical examinations, you will uncover the historical, literary, and theological dimensions of David's story, gaining insight into his pivotal role in the Biblical tradition. Dr. Ziegler's expertise will guide participants in understanding the multifaceted nature of David's journey, from shepherd to king, and his profound impact on the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Jewish people.

Commencing on Sunday, November 3, 2024, this course comprises 12 asynchronous units and 2 Zoom lesson on Sundays at 8:00pm Israel time (dates to be advised).

About the Instructor

Dr. Yael Ziegler is a Senior Lecturer in Tanakh at Herzog College and former Rosh Batei Midrash and Academic Director of Matan. She received her BA from Stern College and an MA and Ph.D. in Bible at Bar Ilan University. Dr. Ziegler has lectured widely on various Tanakh topics in Israel, the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and Europe. Dr. Ziegler is the author of "Promises to Keep: The Oath in Biblical Narrative", "Ruth: From Alienation to Monarchy", and "Lamentations: Faith in a Turbulent World".
