About the Course

This 2-semester course is designed to provide an introduction to effective teaching in Jewish education. The course covers key principles of effective teaching, learning theories, lesson planning, curriculum development, diverse learning styles and needs, engaging teaching methods and strategies, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, assessment and feedback strategies, classroom management in a Jewish context, effective communication and parent involvement, and organizing extra-curricular events.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the role of the teacher in Jewish education
  • Apply key principles of effective teaching in the Kodesh classroom
  • Use learning theories to inform their Kodesh teaching practice
  • Develop effective lesson plans and curriculum for the Kodesh classroom

  • Promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills in Kodesh education
  • Use different types of assessments to measure student learning
  • Manage a classroom in a respectful and effective manner, based on Jewish principles

About the Instructor

Dr. Avraham Roos is an expert in pedagogy and English linguistics. His well-rounded academic background includes an MA from the University of Liverpool, and a PhD from the University of Amsterdam. He has extensive experience teaching Jewish subjects at schools outside Israel (including in Amsterdam and Antwerp) and eagerly looks forward to engaging with Jewish educators from around the world, sharing his expertise and fostering a global community of learning.
